Batik Portfolio The following batiks are in my portfolio collection. All my batiks are originals. Batiks are available for sale either as a batik alone, a batik matted or matted and framed. I can change the size of any batik you may be interested in. If a particular batik has already been sold, I can paint an original for you. Slight variations may occur. Matching exactly to the batik in my collection is very difficult in the watercolor and batik process. I will always send a scanned copy of the batik for your approval and acceptance. ***** I currently only paint using Mulberry paper. Custom matting and/or framing is available. Matted and framed batiks are of professional quality, using all wood or barn wood frames, acid free-archival mats, non-glare glass on 11 x 14 and larger, paper backing and hangers. I create a pattern which is then traced onto paper with a marker. I only use Mulberry Paper now but this batik was created on Rice Paper. 
Now begins the resist process. A multi-layering technique of watercolor and wax is used. The wax being the resist component. I work from light to dark tones. |
Eventually my entire piece is covered in wax. To remove the wax, I iron the paper between layers of newspaper.
The batik is then ready to mount, mat and frame.
It is a time consuming process. It isn't until the wax is totally removed, that I really see how the batik has turned out.
